FRIENDS OF CALDICOTT

FOC Funds

The Friends have supported fundraising for Caldicott school projects, benefitting pupils, parents and staff, and other external charities.

In the last 12 months the FOC have raised funds to purchase much needed gazebos to keep the wind, rain (and hail) off our rugby and football teams and their supporters, we paid for a fantastic science/rocket experience at the school and our big project has been the development of the new kitchen in the Centenary Hall. We have also donated to charity.

Monies raised by the FOC help fund and develop large & small projects, including the new IT & Music Suite, the Spens Field Pavillion, Kindles for the upper school, refurbishment of the 5th & 6th Form Common Rooms, the new Library, tree bench and external charities.

Please feel free to contact us with any suggestions at friends@caldicott.com

The 5th Form Common Room has been completely refurbished in 2019 with a great space to chill out, fabulous table and benches to read, and the envy of the whole school... the Table Hockey and Table Football! This has been a huge success and is being well utilised by all the of the 5th Form.

Star Chaser Rocket Day

As part of this year’s Science Week, the Friends funded a visit from Starchaser to talk to the boys about Space Exploration and involve them in a  series of space related activities throughout the day.

The day concluded with the launch of a couple of model rockets, powered by real rocket fuel which flew hundreds of feet into the air before returning safely via parachute – the boys and parents loved it .  What a great way to inspire and enthuse our boys!

The Rocinha Bodyboarding School

The Rocinha Bodyboarding School is a charity which the boys have supported for favela kids in Rio.  At total of £2400 was raised by the boys’ stalls at the Summer Fete 2014 and the 3rd Form Fiver Challenge.

One of our charities is the local South Bucks RDA (Riding for Disabled) in Fulmer. This is the stable where Sophie Christensen OBE trained for her record-breaking three Paralympic gold medals in 2012. In November 2014, we were visited in assembly by Di Redfern and Richard Redfern accompanied by the New Forest pony, Forester! They spoke to the boys and staff about the work they do to help give children and adults with disabilities more confidence in life.

The Headmaster presented a cheque for £3000 to the RDA at their stables in Fulmer; £1800 raised from collections at the carol services and £1200 from the money raised at the Friends' Christmas drinks.

The Friends' Funds made it possible for the RDA to purchase a new pony, called Liberty!

On 29.9.17 the FOC hosted a coffee morning in the Centenary Hall for parents. We all enjoyed a catch up over a coffee and cake and rasied over £300 for Macmillan.

Caldicott Sports
Gazebo

Following many hours spent on touch lines in the wet and cold, Friends of Caldicott have funded two fantastic Sports Gazebos which can be used in all weathers.  Typically on their first outing it was a gorgeous sunny day, but the boys really appreciated it and  they are sure to appreciate them more over the winter months.

Home-Start Slough

Home-Start Slough is the largest family charity in Slough and is often the last resort for parents finding life difficult, either due to critical financial & housing problems, post-natal depression, bereavement, mental health issues, isolation or family breakdown. This has been a wonderful opportunity for Caldicott boys to make a difference to families who live just down the road from us.  Your gifts made these families' Christmas even better!

Library
Renovation

The Library refurbishment was completed in March 2014. The walls were removed in the old library with a complete rewiring and new windows fitted. A beautiful light and bright space was created with fantastic views onto the Caldicott grounds.

The inside has been furnished with new chairs, comfortable sofas and a large interactive computer system and screen.

There's a constant hub of activity in the library, with Mums reading with 1st & 2nd Form boys, sports teachers analysing game tactics on the interactive screen, boys reading during breaks, Some teaching sessions are held in the library, and moreover, the boys have over 5,000 books to enjoy.

M:tech, a company specialising in the teaching of Music Technology in schools. It was decided to have a Music IT suite with 10 workstations, each equipped with a midi-keyboard, computer and software for music recording and production as well as Sibelius score production. There is a teacher desk for demonstration, linked to projection, and all the workstations are connected to an amplified playback system for sharing work or performing on keyboards together.

The other half of the room is a music teaching room with smart board and projector, used for teaching and practise in the usual way. However, it also has microphones built into it and is wired through to the master-desk in the Music IT room, so the two rooms used in conjunction with each other act as a recording studio.

This was a brilliant additional development to the refurbishment of the Music department and has transformed the music teaching capability for classes.

M:tech now teach specialist Music technology lessons in the school. Available to the 3rd Form and above. All boys get to use the Music IT suite in class music lessons, where projects include learning keyboard skills, music theory, composition projects, recording projects and performance projects.
